Carved out of a single block of vesicular basalt, molcajetes were traditionally used by pre-Hispanic Mesoamerican cultures to grind spices and other food products. The rough surface of the basalt stone creates a superb grinding surface. In spite of its function, this molcajete makes for a gorgeous textural countertop accessory.
